Rapidfire Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 wow one burst from Hi24 and my whole nose cone is gone? I thought the Su25A was supposed to be tuff, but man no way should one burst of 30mm knock that off maybe damage it but knock it all off? :music_whistling:
mvsgas Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 (edited) Did you survive? I call that a tough aircraft. Edited June 2, 2015 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
kripzoo Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Well, the SU-25 is mainly armored around the cockpit to protect the pilot (like many other ground pounder) There must be a balance between the weight and armor, so the whole aircraft can't be made out of steel/titanium. ;)
PiedDroit Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Protection is put mostly around the pilot, fuel tanks, engines and controls redundancy. Check this video, it shows some of the tests conducted on the frame. One of them is interesting (@ 11:45), it show a static testbed with an engine running and and articulated arm that punches through the engine nozzle from behind: (SU-25 part 10:50 to 12:50)
