CHRISXTR3M3 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Came across this article today. http://www.engadget.com/2015/06/07/us-navy-electromagnetic-catapult/?ncid=rss_truncated&ref=yfp So I wonder, for DCS 2.0, can we just go ahead and implement this one? No need to add vapor gfx for the shoot and stuff. It's basically a giant rail gun under the deck. User Files for AV8-B, X55

Interestingly there's an LV retro-fittable version that can launch this: Could be relevant for STOVL carriers.
StrongHarm Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 This makes sense.. since the carrier has pretty much unlimited electrical energy. The steam cat is strong enough though, I can attest to that. The first time I went off the cat was in a C-2A Greyhound. The load master was a good friend of mine and wanted to mess with me. He told the cat officer we had a full heavy load, so they dialed the power up, but it was actually just me and him in the back. That cat threw us so hard it knocked me out and made me piss my flight suit. I woke up and tried to hide it, but the load master laughed and said it wasn't a big deal, it happens to a lot of people on their first shot.. even if it's dialed low. I later did hundreds more shots in various aircraft, and loved every one of them. The Navy ruined all amusement parks for me. It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm
CHRISXTR3M3 Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 Man that still sounds like a great experience! No matter how many flight suits I may ruin! Haha =) User Files for AV8-B, X55
