I am somewhat new to DCS but not pc simming; games like Il-2 Sturmovick 1946,Falcon 4 BMS,etc are my favs.

One thing I noticed vs IL2,F4 BMS is that AAA is fairly limited in variety. Low altitude small caliber cannons is pretty much it. I know this is probably due to the fact SAMs are way more effective and modeled.

I would like to see added to DCS, a more multi layered AAA threat. At least some radar guided 85/100mms? Anyone else thinking along these lines?

I'm not familiar with any large (85/100mm) radar guided AAA systems in the age of the missile. Mostly, we would worry about AAA starting at the 10-12k ft altitude, and SAMs above that. With a guided missile at high altitude, you have a much greater probability of hitting a target than a ballistic projectile that is radar aimed (not guided), and this is especially true of a maneuvering target.

One worry about dodging high altitude SAMs like the SA-2, SA-3, SA-5 is that the high energy maneuvering will cost you altitude and may pull you into the 10-12k AAA envelope. That's where the 57mm can ruin your day, as well as a lucky hit from a 23mm. The other worry is a "flak trap" at the end of a valley that is inviting for pilots trying to evade SAMs on either side, but these would be the the machinations of the mission builder.

One thing I will say about Falcon BMS is that the IADS is modeled quite well. If you aren't watching your altitude, you will get shot at by AAA if you decend into the envelope, and if you don't jink you will likely get hit.
