SP Mission for Su-27: In Defence of Sochi

In this mission you fly the Su-27. You and your three wingmen are the alert aircraft at Sochi Adler airfield which is about to come under heavy attack. Defend the airfield!

 

This single player mission is a fictional scenario in which combined NATO forces attack Sochi Adler airfield. Your mission as the alert flight at the airfield is to assist with defending the airfield from enemy attack. Shoot down the incoming bombers and escort fighters!

 

The mission does not require any mods and should play well with the game as-is. I have assigned several units fictional winter camouflage schemes, but if you don't have these installed it should default to general cammo schemes and I don't think it will cause a problem.

 

The frame rate at the start of the mission can be slightly low but I wanted to convey the feeling of a "living" airfield with static objects, moving vehicles and other things. If you find it makes the start of the mission completely unplayable do let me know & I'll post a streamlined version without the extras.

 

There aren't any known bugs... At least none that aren't a product of the occasional plankton-level of intelligence exhibited by the AI. Originally I'd intended the strike aircraft to be B-52's but no matter what I did or tried they simply refused to attack. I swapped them for B-2B's which for some mysterious reason worked perfectly.

 

The intended sequence of events is that the Sochi CAP flight of 2 x MiG-29S will take on the incoming SEAD flight of 4 x F-18C which are tasked with destroying the Sochi air defence group. I've modelled the air defence group on real Soviet / Russian airfield defence layouts. The players' task is to take on the strike aircraft and their F-4E fighter escorts (2 per bomber).

 

I've tried this a couple of times now and things seem to go one of two ways: if the friendly MiG CAP is successful against the SEAD flight then taking on the bombers and their escorts is less of a challenge. If the MiG CAP gets shot down early by the F-18's then the mission becomes a bit of a challenge as your flight then has 4 x F-18s and 4 x F-4E's to take on.

 

Hopefully it's a fairly fun mission for you to fly. I haven't included any external pdf briefing document with this mission as I hadn't really intended it to become part of a campaign or have any detailed background story.
