Hummingbird Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Fly by wire (FBW) just means that the control column and control surfaces are linked electronically and not mechanically, that's it really. The FCS, Flight Control System, is what then monitors all the input signals and adjusts the control surfaces based on allowed/disallowed parameters, just as CptSmiley explained. Anyway what I really wanna know something about is the FM (i.e. the aerodynamic characteristics of the aircraft ingame) and how realistically it will be modelled. For example will the Mirage 2000 come equipped with a fully realistic FM from the get go? Or will we get that later?
OnlyforDCS Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Hummingbird, Zeus has already indicated in another thread that it depends on the quality and status of the EFM at the time of the release of the Mirage. If it is not judged 'good enough' the aircraft will be released with SFM first, followed by the EFM at a later date. With that said CptSmiley seems pretty optimistic and upbeat about the EFM. Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.
Moos_tachu Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 (edited) Would just like to clarify that open beta release is not final release. Open beta is announced for December. Final release has not been announced yet (will probably depend on beta progress, as for other modules). Then the specifications of the official announcement stand for the final product. And they include "advanced flight model". Edited September 28, 2015 by Moos_tachu [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Mud, wind and fire.
