The problem with the button assignments

I am not completely sure what your problem is, so excuse me if my answer doesn't fit.

 

You cannot assign an axis to the brake at all, because it is still SFM.

I could assign the button for the wheelbrakes without any problems though.

 

There have been some problems with assigning buttons in that plane. If I recall correctly I had the problem assigning keys because I couldn't click some functions in the options menu, so I cleared the whole device profile and then it worked.
