Deano87 Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Hi all, I play DCS in the Oculus Rift and I noticed that aircraft Navigation lights disappear at a much closer distance than they should. I've been flying online with a friend and when he got to about 0.2 miles away his navigation lights on his F15 disappeared from view in the Rift. His aircraft was still clearly visible to me and he had not turned the lights off.. as soon as I got a little closer they popped back into visibility. As an experiment I tried it with the external view of my own aircraft and indeed when I zoomed the camera out a certain distance the lights would disappear whilst the aircraft is still visible. vicx Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Yes this is something I noticed in the Rift too and wondered why it was happening. It could be a more aggressive LOD system is used for VR rendering than than for the normal game rendering. Maybe to keep the framerate high? If this is the case I don't know how they would fix it.
Nedum Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 The nav lights are a victim of the new LOD system... that new behavior is not only visible with the OR. Deano87 Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 Hmm yeah you might be right... I have noticed the LOD switching on some aircraft to be very aggressive with the Rift under 1.5. I presume the issue then is that it eventually switches to a LOD that doesn't actually have nav lights on it because it would normally be so far away in a Non-VR setup that you wouldn't be able to see them anyway... maybe the LOD switching is too aggressive? I have noticed no FPS difference between when I can see the Nav Lights and when I can't so I presume the impact of holding on to the lit LOD for a bit longer would be negligible? I wonder if the models have separate LOD control files for VR or if they are just using a scaler on a global scale... hmm Proud owner of: PointCTRL VR : Finger Trackers for VR -- Real Simulator : FSSB R3L Force Sensing Stick. -- Deltasim : Force Sensor WH Slew Upgrade -- Mach3Ti Ring : Real Flown Mach 3 SR-71 Titanium, made into an amazing ring. I didn't realise there was a new LOD system? Don't the .lods files in the World/Shapes folder still control LOD switching by distance?
