Had this issue since first release of 1.5.0: trees in vilages have no shadows until I zoom out quite a bit. Trees in forrests are not affected.

Changing the graphic settings have no effect on this issue (i.e. Shadows=Ultra/High/Medium, Flat Terrain Shadows=on/off)

Forest shadows in 1.5.0.46175 improved but still some bugs

Forest shadows look better on my computer.

Issues remaining:

1) some shadows still "switch" on and off every few seconds

2) fps is quite a bit lower than non-forest areas, but perhaps this is to be expected if so many shadows are calculated simultaneously.

3) colour of certain tree areas is clearly different, and it doesn't look natural. See for example second picture. It kinda looks like the sun light is falling from a different direction.

Video

I have made a video to capture the current status

Please let me know whether you can access it.

A fourth issue I noticed is some delays (stuttering) when flying close to the trees even though the fps is around 60-70.

you need to tun on flat terrain shadows.

your screenshot shows village and the flat terrain shadows only work for trees near villages and cities.

i did some tests before.

No, changing Flat Terrain Shadown On or Off does not affect this for me. And it should not, as far as I understand it (flat terrain shadows = shadows are only cast on the ground, but not on other objects).(edit: deleted)

It is only depending on the view distance of the village trees for me. When viewed from far away, they do cast shadows, but those disappear when zooming in. At the default view distance, i.e. from within the cockpit, I can only see shadows cast by forrest trees, but not from village trees.

Interestingly, when zooming in or out, they do not (dis)appear suddenly, but vanish gradually - there is a small range where they get more and more transparent untill they are gone completely.

edit: ok, you are in fact correct. I just double checked it: the described effect only occurs when "flat terrain shadows" is set to OFF. When I now tested it with that set to ON, I had tree shadows. No idea why I thought it were different at first - maybe my graphics setting was somehow not active, like it happens so often with the settings under Special if you just installed a new module ...?

So, only Non-flat shadows are affected and there only for trees in villages.

Posts moved to wrong thread

Dear moderator, my two posts above are on the topic of shadows of trees in forests. I think they will be overlooked here, I would appreciate it if you could move them to a more relevant thread.

Some new information, based on comments from theropod I have switched flat terrain shadows on. Trees in villages now show shadows, however trees in forest still shimmer.

I have recorded a new video after hot fix 3 with flat terrain shadows on, here is the link.

You need to look carefully as the effect is less obvious in the video than ingame on my monitor. Towards the end the on/off switching of shadows is most clear. I look forward to your comments, and thanks for the hot fixes so far.
