Colt40Five Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Is there anyway to increase the detection range of a GAI flight short of an EWR? If you put an EWR up they just all take off. I'm looking for some middle ground between regular detection range and with EWR. Any help appreciated! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Weta43 Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 There's a thread somewhere which gives detection ranges for planes on various tasks. Cheers.
Colt40Five Posted June 21, 2006 Author Posted June 21, 2006 when I search for GAI I get nothing (not even this thread). I also searched for "detection range" and didn't find any help either. And I don't need to know exactly what the detection range is for a GAI flight to activate, I need to know if there's a way to extend the range... short of adding an EWR which gets the GAI flights up too early. Weta43 Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 I think GAI is fixed at 60km, unless there's EWR or AWACs in which case it's infinite. I know there's a thread with how far off planes on escort, fighter sweep etc. will react - because I printed it off & used it for setting up a couple of missions, but I can't find the bit of paper... OK - couldn't find the paper - found the file... By Mbot "Here are my findings on reaction distances against airborn targets: Fighter Sweep - 100 km Intercept - 150 km CAP - 125 km Escort - 30 km GAI - 60 km This is only true against targets that have actualy been dedected. So a CAP fighter will not engage a enemy at 130 km even if he has him dedected while a fighter with the intercept task will not engage a target at 90 km that he hasn't dedected yet etc." Given how many posts there are from beta testers complaining about how long the longer of these are, I don't think it's a user editable variable. Cheers.
Colt40Five Posted June 21, 2006 Author Posted June 21, 2006 hmmm I think I was alot closer than 60km (more like 20km) when the GAI flight finally took off to intercept me. Going to have to do some testing. Is the detection dependant on LOS with the GAI airfield's radar? I was thinking maybe there was a data edit I could do to to increase the range without going to the infinite EWR/AWACS. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Weta43 Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Not sure about the line of sight thing, but I'm pretty sure I've set missions up using the 60km figure & had them work OK. (Don't know of a data edit, but if you find it - let us know :-) Cheers.
