Finished watching it, IMO it deserves it's own thread . . . .

More footage than I've ever seen of this aeroplane, including some extraordinary ordnance testing clips. The whole aeroplane is suspended from a frame by cables, undercarriage down, and weapons test-fired from there . . . . . amazing.

Check it out:

It's been on Patrick's site for a while now, but yes, the vid is great (I was as mad about it as you are).

Those MFDs on the production models look really great (shown in the part where they visit the construction plant). That S-25 didn't have a warhead, and even then it obliderated the big block.

I've finally found the footage of an ejection test, on the net (had it on VHS), shows the su-34 ejection test. Left seat goes first, at an angle, so that the rocket nozzle doesn't scortch the WSO, then the WSO goes, also at an offset angle (and I have no ideat why, because in a linear path, this would increase tha chance of chute entanglement, or the WSO getting hit by the pilot's seat)

Oh, it also has an RCS of a cruise missile due to ram coatings.

Yuck...glass cockpit (shrieks in horror). Good video though...even though the Russians are apparently departing from one of the things that made their aircraft so tough and reliable.

It looks like most of the MFDs they showed were from a trainer and may not have been the real thing.

I worked for the Training Aides Electronics Division of the USAF for a bit (many, many years ago) and we assembled several trainers that were mounted like and looked like the ones displayed (in terms of differences between the ones in the trainer and the ones in the cockpit).

Of course with the quality of the video and the briefness of the shots it's hard to tell, but they definately reminded me of the APR-38 trainers we did for the F15 pilots (yes THAT long ago, - the first F16 pilots were just starting their training!). I think they were showing you a trainer and not the real McCoy though...

That aside, it was a great video!! I's love to see more like that!

Interesting assumption, but, this video is from like 2003/4, and around that time the first ICO production samples were being built, but yes, it's strange they had the cockpit fully made, while the rest of the plane was still pieces of lego.

Don't worry, the su-34 doesn't have that much mfds, and they're backed up by analogue primary flight indicators, the new su-30/35 series are a disappointment though, no analogue gauges at all, and this panoramic lay-out of mfds (the ones at the sides are pointing towards the pilot, guess for better visibility, although the MFSs in the su-30MK were good enough, judging from videos.)
