0xDEADBEEF Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Hi guys! I've just been wondering. Usually i deploy chaff as I'm engaged kinda permantly. I see that my 27ERs are frequently going for chaff. But in tacview review i notice that i rarely see a 120 going for my chaff. This make me wonder, am I doing right? So whats the most effective way of deploying it? at a certain point in a maneuver? compressed in a huge bunch at once and then dont chaff for a while, or just keep chaffing every second? thanks! deadbeef
Tello Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 If I use my beginners logic I would say that if you are in a situation where the 120 is on to you, you already failed in playing your flanker to the best means. ;) Seriously though: You can spam chaff all you want and when you want. The key is to know how to burn its energy best and not rely "only" on chaff countermeassures. Sure I have beaten 120 with chaff and a lazy defensive move/luck > skills, but never the less, chaff/flares is not/should not be the most important priority in your defensive tactics arsenal it is just there to make the game/you look cool while you are defensive.. Now for the R-27 vs chaff is another story - a story I know little about. Best advice I can think of: When you fly the flanker you want to make best use of your timing and energy costly moves.. Let it get a little closer than you like and then pull that stick. Be up, down, what ever just make sure you make that missile/slammer waste some energy.. The fun part about the flanker is also in surviving that evil western technology.. But timing I think is the key to survive.. The Hard mode begins when they arrive with good separation and compared to above you either have to deny him that chance or simply(yeah right) shot him down before he get more slammers going at you! - Don´t just use your plane but as well your sourrondings. Oh and the timing Looking forward to see you in Blueflag Soon™ 120 going for my chaff. This make me wonder, am I doing right? thanks! deadbeef 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Sweep Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 (edited) TL;DR If you want your chaff to work: Beam/dive and spam chaff. AAM Threats: SARH: R-27R/ER/AIM-7M, assuming your opponent isn't a tard and launched within 10nmi (medium/low alt, high alt shots you need to turn out a little bit earlier...) I'd recommend 20-60 chaff (or stop chaffing when the smoke trail diverges away from you). ARH: beam/dive and just keep the chaff going, there's a somewhat small chance of chaff affecting non-120 ARH seekers, AFAIK...for the 120 you can either use the chaff or not, but defeating the MISSILE (and not the seeker) is generally the way to go with Slammers. SAMs? Same as SARH, excluding SA-10/Patriot because you don't want to enter those threat rings to begin with. Might need to start maneuvering/CMing later or earlier depending on the threat. Notes: In the f-15 I have 2 chaff buttons on the stick so I can get a lot out in a short time. I would do the same in the Flanker but most of the threats there are AMRAAMs, so chaff isn't as useful. In the A-10 I set my chaff profile to spam about 40 chaff in a 2-3 second period. I usually pull up and into the threat missile/aircraft after dragging it downhill. The idea in-game is to get the missile to roll the chaff dice a lot in a very short time to defeat the missile quickly, please note that the missiles can reacquire after eating chaff/flare, but the odds of it having the kinematic ability to correct are very low unless its a short range heater or something.
