Looking to buy a PC specifically for flight sims; DCS, Falcon 4.0, and Flight Simulator. I'm not looking for super-fancy, just something fast enough to handle these three games with ease. I already have a monitor, A-10 Warthog stick and throttle and rudder pedals. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...

I'd suggest to start here: http://pcpartpicker.com/ and look at what PCs people are building based on certain budgets and performance needs.

"Building your own PC and need ideas on where to get started? Explore our build guides, which cover systems for all use-cases and budgets, or create your own and share it with our community."

It's a pretty cool website that helped me getting started on building my own rig after being out of the hardware loop for a few years. :)

Hello my friend.

For FSX, if you plan to use REX and the best add ons Aerosoft and the lot got to offer i suggest an i7 quad core@4-4.5

2X4 gigabytes RAM

for DCS an i5 should cut it as for Falcon i used to run it on a Pentium so.....

For a motherboard i would aim for a sub 100euro one with ease of overcloacking in mind.

A 256 SSD is strongly suggested. I got the Samsung EVO and love it.

I suggest you get also a USB hub with intepentant power.

A simple DVD burner

And the rest of the sum you can afford i would use for a graphics card as high as your pain threshold allows you too. This will also determine the PSU you will need.

Now, you probably got a fixed sum in your mind. Let me ask you:

Are you prepared to upgrade every second year?

NO, you are not.

So you probably plan to keep the PC for 6-8 years.

A 1000 euro PC will play well for 2-3 years all of the above. After that you will reconsider your parts, protocols will have changed and you will have to rethink a new purchase.

My advice is the following:

Plan ahead. Get a high end PC with a 6-8 years plan. This thinking served me since i started using computers in 1977. OFC until the end of the 80s technology kept us allways on fast tracks.

This i must addmit is me thinking for max detail on every resolution possible.

i wish you safe landings and lots of joy.

PS (if i do not make much sense its OK. i am Greek, we are not allways rational.)

Greek/German origin.

Flying sims since 1984.

Using computers since 1977.

Favored FS's:F/A18 Interceptor, F19 Stealth Fighter, Gunnship, F16 Combat Pilot, Flight of the Intruder, A320, Falcon 4.0, MSFS 2004-X, DCS

I'm in pretty much the exact same situation, it'd be interesting to see what you eventually decide on.

Advice I've got so far has been largely:

- Definitely get an SSD

- Get a 4gb graphics card, 2gb isn't really enough to be happy with DCS (ouch, right in the budget...)

- I've been told to avoid Gigabyte motherboards due to various reliability issues, although that might not apply to all models.

- Avoid AMD cpus, apparently they don't work so well with DCS as it's not optimized for using lots of cores (which, again, means spending lots more money).

My new build

How will this build work in DCS? I picked some pretty high end components all round but the dropped a bit on the card, since i plan to get something for oculus when it has been out for a while and prices have dropped a bit. I was wondering if anyone have tried out the 390x in DCS? Everyone seems to go the nvidia way, and after reading many reviews I kinda went away from wanting the 970..

I plan on just playing 1080p

That seems to be a nice build!

Only thing I would change is the SSD drive; go with a Samsung 850 Pro instead (e.g., from here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147360)

8GB VRAM on that Radeon card? Nice! How come NVIDIA doesn't offer something like that?
