Well ive been looking on the web and going through in game tutorials and i cant find any good tutorial on how to engage into BVR... im trying to do the 1st mission on F15c campaign..

Ihave 120, 7 and 9 missles.

from what I understand 9 is for close combat (WVR)

and 120 and 7 are BVR... now here come the questions:

1) How do i know which is best to use 120 or 7

2) Need tutorial from A to Z on how to do BVR... built in tutorials in LOMAC for F15c dont have anything like that about BVR.

3) I see AI F15c's firing 7's from 10~15nm but I have to get within VR to like 5-7nm to fire mine.

The only tutorials I found are from http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/a2a.htm however none of them specialize in BVR. (download ther eis sooo slow too.. 10kb/sec) =(

soo can someone either answer my qestuoins on direct me somewhere?

Also I think its 9s that have the missle guidance thing with the loud buzzer and when it locks on a high pitch sound (dont know the name of the system)... should I use that if my radars work and stuff? or is that for when my stuff is broken? Cuz from waht I understand the locking on with your plane avionics is better /easier... ??

1) Well, in RL, the 120 replaced the 7 ... so always use the 120. It's a much smarter missile and in particular has its own radar ... once its locked the target you can leave it to hit. The 7, being semi-active radar, has to be supported by your radar all the way to impact.

2) If you are serious/interested read books/internet references ... there are plenty around. I'm sure people can quote good refs. Try http://www.simhq.com/_air/acc_library.html there are some good refs there ... also look up text on Falcon sites .. some great articles written there regarding BVR and most of it applies.

3) Depends on the shot ... head-on closing at 1400mph you can fire from 20miles. In a tail chase on a Mig-29 on burner, low down then 5 may be all you'll get.

AIM-9s are Infra-red guided - they 'see' the heat of the target and try and center it in there seeker until boom! Firing with a radar lock is good because it will give you an extact range/direction of the target ... without it you are guessing. Again if you are chasing a target you have to get much closer ... thats why the Sovs built the R-27ET - to chase down fleeing a/c on burner.

Also, go on-line on a good server with plenty of players and just record a long track. Then replay it and watch what people do ...

Hope this helps,

James

thanks for the reply. Not sure if you thought i wanted manuals for BVR for RL, I dont i want them for LOMAC =) Something that will tell me what to press, what to look for etc.. but ill check out the site you gave me and look around more :)

oh and if 120's replaced 7s.. why even produce/include 7s?

Because in the period 'covered' by LO ... they phased out the 7 and phased in the 120.

SimHQ has some good early LO articles ...

Well, in theory LO reflects RL ... unfortunately not in practice. Also, things have changed with different versions of LO. Early versions were modified to improve flaws only to open up even greater problems!! Its a very complex world!
