Hi guys, I've got a question about the BLG-66 antirunway bomb.

The anti-runway mission in DCS is it really effective ? Runway are really unavailable after bombing ? Or this is just a feature where the bomb hit the runway but doesn't affect it ?

Thanks in advance for your aswers !

Best regards.

First, the BLG-66 is the Belouga cluster bomb. You are talking about the BAP-100.

Second, ED told me that indeed, there is a runway damage timer that starts when the runway is hit by cratering munitions. I don't know for how long the timer runs, but for a while the runway is flagged as unavailable. I assume this works for both Solo and MP. The "damage" does not trigger any visual cue.

Remember that they keyword here is cratering munitions, so that means durandals and their like.

I would imagine currently no, since T.5 map engine (Straight of Hormuz and after) is supposed have dynamic mesh technology (so supposedly bomb craters).

Otherwise I think there can be scripts in multiplayer where if the runway gets bombed, you can't spawn at the airfield anymore.

Okay, thanks for your answer, but for the BLG-66 it depend of the version that you've made. In the french air Force, we had the three variants of this bomb, AC (Anti-Tank), EC (Anti-personnel = for the infantry and lethal within 60 meters) and IZ for runway, roads...

In the past (FC 1.12 and FC 2) there was real damage on the runway and flat craters (like described by Zeus). If you took off from or tried to land on a bombed runway, you damaged your tires and sometimes your aircraft, as well.

Yeah that's why I ask for 1.5/2.0, it can be cool if we have real damages on the terrain in the future...

As I said, ED confirmed that there is timed runway damage when the proper munitions hits it. For an undisclosed period of time the runway is not available.

If the BLG 66 is supposed to deny the runway it doesn't.

You can easily check by putting a client slot to start on the runway and then bomb it with an air start M2000-C with BLG-66's til blue in the face.

The runway takeoff slot will always take off on the runway.

Now repeat with an Su-25T with Beta 500 shp.

Hop in your runway takeoff slot and he's bumped to parking and told the runway is closed. Of course you can just take off as long as you avoid the craters, but it would probably properly deny the AI.
