Why won't Countermeasures work for me?

I have the countermeasures bound to my hotas, I have them on the back of my plane in the loadout screen, and I remember to take the cover off of the cm button in pit, but it still doesn't work

Make sure you have flipped the two JATO/SPRD switches on. They are left of the AC generator switch. These must be flipped after the countermeasures are loaded on the aircraft as far as I know.

 

Also, it's not enough to just press the countermeasures button. It must be held for a little while. Maybe 300 milliseconds or so.

I have had the same problem as you last week. Except mine stopped working after the latest update. When you have removed the cover you need indeed hold the button for a pretty long time to fire a chaff or flare.
