Upgrading Windows, can I leave my DCS install intact?

I am going to be upgrading my Win 7 install to Win 10 soon. I will be doing a clean install. DCS is installed on another games only SSD, separate from my boot drive. Once I finish installing Windows 10, can I simply plug in my other SSD and reactivate my modules? Or will a new OS install require a reinstall of DCS?

I've moved the install between drives before, but never deactivated/reactivated and then point the game to a new OS. It would save me a lot of time redownloading/installing.

As for my config files (HOTAS .lau configs ect.), can I just copy my DCS folder in:

C:\Users\Username\Saved Games

and paste it in the appropriate directory once Win 10 is installed? Will doing this automatically point the game to my various aircraft profiles?

With a clean install you will have to reinstall all your games and programs, but then should be able to transfer all your saved games over or designate the save folder on the other drive.

You don't have to with DCS.

Really with a clean install of a new operating system?

You still need to download and install dcs version you had prior, then you can move all your saved data and program files over and it should replace all the extra modules. If dcs does not get installed, just copying the saved files and program data over will not be associated with a program within windows 10.

Also if you have games on steam you play you need to go into steam and do a backup. This will save you a lot of hassle. I just did this about a year ago when going from beta to full win 10.

No, you can just create a shortcut to the DCS_updater.exe.

You don't have to install DCS World from scratch.

Yes you should be fine. Just make sure to copy the files you mention.

Thank you! If I have a problem I will post back, but I just wanted to be sure. I know it works for some other games like BF4. I plan on doing the same for it. Between those two games it is 100GB+ to redownload, so just plugging in my SSD is much preferred. :)

Hi,

Switched from WIN 7 to 10

No problems at all for three installed versions ( DCS \ BETA \ ALPHA )

1 ) Restored C:\Users\Username\Saved Games\...

2 ) Created for each version three short-cuts

Example for DCS

Normal Start : "E:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe"

Update only : "E:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" update

Repair : "E:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" repair

... execute in : "E:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin"

Got an error-message on the first normal start ( I guess it was ALPHA )

-> Repair

-> ok
