I created a fast mission and took out three tanks with GBU's on three separate runs, then got

hit by a SAM, I sustained enough damage that it took me out of the fight but was able to successfully land without wheels, I was proud enough of myself that I wanted to save the track

however, when I watched it, instead of diverting to the nearest field and landing, the track

showed me getting blown out of the sky.... What's up with that?

This is not the first time my track has been altered.

I can't remember the last time they worked as they should - probably at least a couple of years ago, if not more.

To be honest, that mystifies me, too - I think it's a left over mentality from when the tracks worked. It is always possible that the one in a dozen or three might look okay - you'd have to check it, first.

Small tracks do work. If you have a bug you can easily create a very small mission where you show it, those tracks usually work.

The problem is with the style tracks are usually programmed in games. As you might guess, they are not video files (the file size would be huge). They simply log what actions all planes do at what point in time and when you hit "replay", they simply work through this log.

A big problem is for example if you replay files from later versions, of course something in the physic engine has changed and an action that moved you some meters to the left now moves you a meter more to the left etc.

But even in same versions, I think the "timestamps" while recording all actions are not accurate enough in replays. They log all your actions correctly but when replaying they may be played at wrong time. Accurateness errors simply accumulate over time.

Another thing I noticed watching the track, during the first part of it, my head movements were

recorded accurately, then my head movements while I was watching with my TrackIR on my head took over, weird.

Yes. Those tracks are "semi"-interactive as they are no video files. As you are directly "in-the-game" and watching while the replay processes the logged actions.

At least it does not block view-changing commands like TrackIR does, or if you use the view changing key commands (Numpad).

Too bad, it was a mission I would have liked to have seen in it's entirety. I don't know if my

wheels shredded when I touched down on the runway, or were lost by the SAM strike. When

I landed my gear was intact but my wheels were gone.

Damage also is up to chance, so you lived in the original strike, but int replay it blew you sky high. This is a common failing in track files.

There's nothing in there thats says target was hit and sustained X damage, but rather just that a SAM fired at you.

In another replay it might miss you completely, or damage you in an entirely different way...
