PFMM Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 The focus of most of the advice I've found on the web,in the manual, and on the tutorials is concerned with one on one jousting matches (Irohand's site is a noted exception). And, as I've been bumbling my way through the MIG29 campaign last chance, I'm wondering what tips people would give regarding success in the sort of brawl that occurs in these missions (say, miision 2 or mission 3 of the stated campaign), where there are about a dozen craft on both sides piling into a limited area of space over a short period of time. Thanks in advance.
Kenan Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Well, in those multiplayer brawls it's usually like, teamplay is very cruical. For example, we at 504th when planning to have a good brawl, all simultaneously exit our cockpits, pull the sleeves up and beat the shit out of the opposing pilots on the tarmac. When outnumbered, we go for some tactical formation-brawls, likeh 1 guy is watching our six and two guys up front going for a Braveheart and if shit hits the fan, the guy on our six jumps in as a backup. We have a fourth guy acting as an AWACS, in case he spots more of them then we can handle, he vectores us to bullseye point (we hide in the engine nicellls or the local caffeteria).. You have all those tutorials, but it all comes down to practice, practice and ..practice. And yes, NEVER, I repeat NEVER use illegal payloads..like broken beer bottles, baseball bats (though there are rumours ED will allow this in the BS) or rotten eggs. Hope to see ya in one of those multiplayer brawls soon, son! 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Commanding Officer of: 2nd Company 1st financial guard battalion "Mrcine" See our squads here and our . JaBoG32_Prinzartus Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 From a tactical point of view, I'd say if you find yourself in a brawl, something went wrong. It is a rather uncontrollable situation. Hard to tell what to do exactly, but try to establsih a controllable sitation. Probably best: go defensive, reevalute threat situation, and if possible, come up with some plan and act to it. Cosmonaut Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 LMFAO @ Kenan PFMM cant remember those missions specifically but you could try spreading out (pincer) left and right to split the enemy so its more of a one on one engagement. You will be better than the Ai so if you can get two of them or get one and make another go defensive then you will soon out number the enemy which should be the main aim when it’s like 4v4. Personally I only design offline missions for a 2v2 engagements because you can employ a tactical solution with in reason of a realistic outcome in terms of communicating with your wingman. When you have more than one AI aircraft to give orders to, with key commands, then it can get a little frustrating and chaotic but 2v2 is just right. Cozmo. PFMM Posted September 4, 2006 Author Posted September 4, 2006 I agree and try to choose the terms of the fight, and try to engage one on one (or two on one) as much as possible. But to succeed in these missions you have a limited time frame to achieve the objectives, and I find myself brawling anyway. Some of the difficulties I've found brawling (I tend toward the MIG and SU25, not familiar with the US planes); - Often, the strongest radar on your RWR is a friendly to the rear, making range determination impossible. - F15 & F16 firing volleys of AMRAAMs - Friendly fire, especially from the rear. - Ground fire scattering the fight and making coordination difficult. - Planes gaining flanking postions, especially from below as much from the side. - Mass use of ECM making TWS useless. - Darkness! Makes the above much worse. Any thoughts on how to minimise or manage the above while in a brawl. Any tracks(with or without commentary) appreciated.
