SAR - they require constant illumination (lock) to guide to target. Pretty accurate, but you cannot hit if you don't keep the target locked. In some cases, radars limit lock on range to less than missile range (esp. in Su-27 ... poor radar. Same with MiG-29 radar)

AR - They require datalink until they begin to guide on their own, but once they go active, you can disengage and hit the road. In the case of teh F-15 with TWS guidance, there is no launch warning until the missile goes active.

IR - no warning unless you lock up the target with the radar. They are not very good head on, best used tail-on or against an unsuspecting target. Their seekers limit the missile's range.

Mig 29 - OK, but Su-27?

In real life or in game? What plane in game can you not lock at outside missile range for an R27ER (looking up, no ECM) in an Su27?

In game the only thing that will lock & shoot before the Su27 is the F14.

In real life it may lack processing power, but it doesn't particularly lack actual power

Cheers.

In TWS when you get the warning 95% of the time it is too late to do anything but get nailed! The warning goes off about 2-3 seconds before the missile hits you.

Thank for helping me.

But speak truth I almost never hit target with SAR.

R-27ET is good for a range longer than CAC but shorter the middle range.

R-27EA is very good in middle range.

R-27EM is useless (I never hit a target with this thing)
