bcradio Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 When I enter a custom frequency in the radio preset card in the mission builder it either doesn't enter into the radio correctly, or the repeater on the upper left instrument panel doesn't show it properly. eg: 300.125 gets displayed as 300.13, which isn't a valid 25khz spaced frequency. Just an FYI.
Frederf Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 That's very common in real aircraft radios to display the 25kHz increments as "rounded" when the display only has two digits right of the decimal point. The Cessna radios would display XXX.X25 as XXX.X3 but perhaps oddly XXX.X75 as XXX.X7 and not XXX.X8. So it was rounding 25kHz up but 75kHz down. Maybe they thought that the 8 looked too similar to a 0? Three and seven are more distinctive than 2 and 8 on a 7-segment display.
bcradio Posted June 27, 2016 Author Posted June 27, 2016 The radios I use just drop the last .005 from the end. 122.175 would show at 122.17. Not sure how they'd be in the Mirage, but I think it's a universal way to display things. (of course, I could be wrong. In fact, I often am!) :-) That's very common in real aircraft radios to display the 25kHz increments as "rounded" when the display only has two digits right of the decimal point. Frederf Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 You know, you're probably right, truncating instead of a weird up/down rounding. I think some radios even do 12.5kHz spacing or 8.333kHz spacing and the "3" might be from X.0375 examples. I have no idea how the Mirage radio displays such frequencies or even if they are possible. Genuinely I suspect that if it's not possible to enter them manually by the pilot then the radio itself cannot handle frequency spacing less than 50 kHz. Probably it should be the ME tab to be updated to only allow valid frequencies.
