jmijnen Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 (edited) Good afternoon, My buddy and I were having a bet where he'd buy the F-5E if I were able to land it on the Carl Vinson (Seeing the aircraft has an 'arrestor hook' for maintenance purposes), so I made multiple approaches but kept having to make go-arounds because the F-5s arrestor hook does not appear to be able to catch the Carl Vinsons wire, I am not sure if this is a bug or not, but it'd be great to see this working.\ (Now I lost the bet  ) Edited July 23, 2016 by jmijnen Modules: too many System: I7-7700K, GTX 2080 Super, 64GB DDR4, 500GB SSD, 3TB HDD.
Ktulu2 Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Well...While the arresting hook should be able to catch cables, the F-5 should not be able to land on carriers due to its landing gear which isn't designed for that (and possibly other things). As there's no runway in DCS that have arrestor cable for emergency landings, I doesn't matter that much. Try it on the Russian carriers, if it works, than the error is due to U.S. ships being only modelled to work with AIs I do DCS videos on youtube : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAs8VxtXRJHZLnKS4mKunnQ?view_as=public
ФрогФут Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 There is no cable physics in the current DCS, so only SFM aircraft can land. Anyway, you will more likely damage the plane and tear the hook off, it's not for carrier landing. jmijnen Posted July 24, 2016 Author Posted July 24, 2016 Thanks for the explanation, I know the F-5 is not carrier capable and I indeed broke my gesr, but it was worth the shot! Modules: too many System: I7-7700K, GTX 2080 Super, 64GB DDR4, 500GB SSD, 3TB HDD.
