golfsierra2 Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I was wondering if somebody already tested how many aircraft Lock-On or FC accepts in one single mission without crashing, either MP or single player. I guess, in the end it's only limited by the computer's performance. Any figures so far ? kind regards, Raven.... [sigpic]http://www.crc-mindreader.de/CRT/images/Birds2011.gif[/sigpic]
ARM505 Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I tested 40 MiG29's against 40 F15's (if I recall correctly, something like that). Initially, my pc (an older iteration admittedly) could only render the starting frame, which showed for about 20-30 seconds. Thereafter, I got about 1 frame every 5-10 seconds, and eventually the fps picked up to watchable levels at about 8 planes a side or so. I was amazed it didn't lock up solid initially. A good burn-in test for a system, thats for sure!

Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 80-90 individual units is the maximum a mission should have, 1/4 flyables , 1/4 static, a dozen active at any time, 1/3 per scenario at one time. You also have to set visual and weather limits in relation to the number of units and keep the variety of units low. A conflict in unit pathway which will result in lower frame rate or even a CTD, that is critical in helicopter overfly areas: you have to avoiding a pathway error bug that will CTD your mission , also , the landing schedule of units has to be correct so you will avoid keeping units rejecting a landing over and over again. Obviously, you also have to know which is the best overall config of LO for what you want to do, this a crucial factor, the better you tweak it, the better the FPS will be in relation to a given number of units.
golfsierra2 Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 80-90 individual units, are these single aircraft or aircraft groups (one unit with 3 wingmen for example) ? Did you ever do a MP-test concerning the max number of aircraft allowed before the host system crashes ? I think, in HL occasionally there might be 30+ single player online in one mission, and I never heard of a breakdown of the HL host machine. kind regards, Raven.... Guest ThomasDWeiss Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 12 pages of the ME wach with 7 units = 84, say 120-150 individual units : that is a good scenario for SP or MP if you have up to 4 human players , I never tried a greater number.
