Braeden108 Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 (edited) Hey guys, I'm planning on making a custom throttle base. It will be build much like the Warthog, with that nice military style. Which involves making some backlit panels. Now I understand how to build them, but I'm wondering the best way to do put letters and symbols on them. Now I know the cool rich boys out there have their panels laser etched, but what's a way a home gamer like me can do it? My current plan is to use T-shirt iron on decals to do it. But if anyone has a better idea, I'm open. Also if you know how the military does it, that be cool to know too. Edited August 28, 2016 by Braeden108 Light the tires kick the fires! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Brewnix Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Hey Braeden, do you have a guide or pdf of the throttle plate. I have been collecting PDF's and DXF files of A10 panels but I have not ran across a throttle plate like the warthogs just cause of the Thrustmaster throttle. I have been thinking of taking a piece of clear plexiglass and to buy a package of sticker lettering drill the wholes and stick the lettering on the appropriate spots, spray primer, paint and maybe a clear coat for strength over the paint then peel the lettering off. Then screw or glue a piece of opaque white plexi behind that. Maybe the light would shine thru the white plexi and would radiate the whole panel. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

However, its of my own design as it incorporates switches from all of the aircraft I fly therefore its not for any one aircraft. That being said I can show you my finished product and if you like it perhaps I could make one for the A-10C? That way you could just print the decal off and save yourself a lot of tedium perhaps. Braeden108 Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 Here's my decal design. Further tweaks will come but I think this is close to the final product.Panel.zip Light the tires kick the fires! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Brewnix Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Nice, That looks good. Thanks for sharing. What is the software you use for that. That actually is a good idea making a panel fits all aircraft you fly. I think that's why I never broke down and bought the Thrustmaster throttle. I would miss all the Extra buttons. Braeden108 Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 I use gimp, it's a free program. Yeah that's the funny thing about the warthog I've never used the engine ignition and motor switches or fuel flow so they're basically useless Light the tires kick the fires! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
