hey all, quick question - can you lock on the IR missiles with the radar turned off? i looked through the instructions and it says to get a radar lock before using IR missiles, but just as a distance guide.

 

i tried to just lock on with IR and no radar but couldn't get a tone/lock.

Sure. Just today I shut radar off and fired IR missiles without problems. You just need to get on range to get the tone.

No the Mig-21bis as we know it in the sim doesn't support uncage missile head capabilities. You have to meet the IR missile requirements to achieve lock tone. Get on his six, dont face the sun have a good range etc

Yes you can fire the ir missiles without radar lock. Also what you might want to experiment with is firing ir missiles with tactical drop on I only recommend this when you get more experience with IR since this allows you to fire missiles regardless of lock my success rate with the r-13m1 missiles went up with this tactic, only fire if you see the tail of target

That bomb arming thing that affects missiles might be a bug i never saw it in the manuals, so don't relie on it cause it might get.fixed.
