Option Terrain shadows off not working?

With the new version you can switch terrain shadows off in the settings. But this doesn`t seem to have any effect on the shadows as I still can see all the shadows of trees and buildings and the shadow of the own aircraft on the ground. With terrain shadows off I can`t see any improvement in fps. So, is this a known bug? (I couldn`t find any thread about it).
