williehayesjr Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Where do I find the right speed and altitude for arriving at a way point or target area on time, i.e., mission speed and altitude? Is there an indication, in the cockpit, that tells me if I will arrive at a particular way point on time and at the right altitude? Sorry for redundancy, I just want to be clear as to what I am asking for. Thanks in advance.
williehayesjr Posted November 21, 2016 Author Posted November 21, 2016 Hi Rabb. I will try to be more clear. For those of you who flew the Falcon 4 platform, there was always an indication of what speed you must fly to get to the way point on time. Moreover, the flight plan gave you the altitude for each way point. Is there anything like that in DCS F15; otherwise how would one know it one is on time for initiation of an attack?
Rabb Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Hi, Willie Hayes. I am superficially familiar with Falcon F-16. In DCS, there is (for some planes/choppers at least) an ETA till next waypoint on HUD, based on your speed (IAS/altitude or TAS). For most planes though, there is no such information, but you have to, once you reach certain altitude and IAS, to start a clock/stopwatch, and deduce your location. Each plane is, more or less, unique. If you can say which airframe you're interested in, I'm sure there would be a lot of guys giving you helpful information. ;)
fitness88 Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 (edited) F-15 has time to waypoint, lower left of the HUD. Mig-29, SU-27 has speed and altitude to next waypoint. EDIT: F-15 has time to waypoint, lower Right on the HUD. Edited December 3, 2016 by fitness88
GGTharos Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 In the F-15 there is a 'time to waypoint' on your HUD. The rest is pilot math done in your head. For reference, a very, very general rule of thumb is every 0.1 mach is 1nm/minute. Hi Rabb. I will try to be more clear. sthompson Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Speed to waypoint in the SU-27 is the designated speed for the flight plan. This may or may not be the speed needed to arrive on schedule, depending on whether you are deviated from the plan already, or not. Best approach is to study the flight plan in the mission editor and know when you are due at each WPT. Then watch the clock and distance to WPT and adjust speed accordingly.
