HRZ Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Or will they still be cheating, ie. know when they're being maddoged from whatever range?
GGTharos Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 They don't know they've been maddogged. They know when the seeker locks onto them. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
HRZ Posted October 26, 2006 Author Posted October 26, 2006 They don't know they've been maddogged. They know when the seeker locks onto them. BUT, if they're being fired at in HOJ and they're ECM ON all the time, do they get a lock warning when the missile is close enough? Or ED just disabled this as AI always flies with ECM ON, so they would be too easy target?
GGTharos Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 The ECM can be used much more realistically than it is being used right now ... but I'm not going to go down this path right now. Are you talking about Semi-Active missiles, or active missiles? In the case of active missiles, they tend to 'burn through' at some point (in terms of LOMAC terminology) and you get the warning. This isn't entirely unrealistic, but for different reasons. In terms of Semi-actives, this is very, very debeatable ... in some cases (the one LO models especially) the missile should home in without problems, and silently. But in realistic cases, trying to home in on a fighter's own SPJ requires you to actually keep a lock on the guy, to keep his jammer operating (in reality, the jammer is supposed to come on ONLY when you are locked/launched on, just long enough to break the lock - it will keep operating as long as it things you're still locked onto it ... and you can make sure your radar keeps making him think that) ... so if you broke lock, the missile would miss since the jammer would shut down. But right now LOMAC models a huge compromise between all that. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
