trigen Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Got myself a new system for the Vive cause well, i couldnt wait any longer! Gonna have to sell most of my RC helis haha but was kind of planning to anyway. 7-7700K 4.2ghz with ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING, 32gb HyperX Fury 2400hz, MSI GTX 1080 and the VIVE. So important steps for the best experience would be? Any mods and such? 1080 ti, i7700k 5ghz, 16gb 3600 cl14 ddr4 oc
NickD Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Enjoy! You didn't list it, so I'd probably say the most important thing is a HOTAS - barring the very few occasional commands (that you can peek out under the nose for) you don't want to be relying on the keyboard. But with a brand new system like that I'd assume you have/left room in the budget for one :) For FC3 craft without clickability, I find Voice Attack can also be useful - I use it as an alternative to binding commands you really only use once or commands with several variants (e.g. all the different kinds of autopilot, "start engines", "close canopy"). No idea how well this works for other craft; though I know of things like VAICOM I only use simple comms voice commands ("start comms", "one", "two", etc) currently.
trigen Posted January 10, 2017 Author Posted January 10, 2017 Cheers, I'll gave a look at VA. Got lots of sticks/hotas so no worries. Wound up canceling the vive a get the rift though lol, freaking impossible to choose but rift seems like the better sim choice 1080 ti, i7700k 5ghz, 16gb 3600 cl14 ddr4 oc
Shabi Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Glad you got a rift, ATW and ASW work very, very well with DCS as your fps will take a nose dive. (ps turn off shadows). Anyway, get a one handed gamepad like the razer tartarus chroma. I bound F1-F12, the radio button and recenter view to it. This way you don't have to fumble around with the keyboard while flying. Oculus CV1, i7 4790k @ stock, gtx 1080ti @ stock, 32gb PC3-19200 @ 2.4ghz, warthog & saitek pedals, razer tartarus chroma.
jimiC Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 (edited) voice attack is a pretty useful 3rd party application. You can make all your comms menus voice controlled. you can add less often used cockpit commands to voice command to free up hotas and skip the keyboard entirely. Swivelling office chair. If you came from TrackIR, get ready for some neck stretching as you twist around fully to see behind yourself. Swivel Chair helps by allowing you to rotate your body a bit more freely as well. Also I find some lens/screen cleaner and glasses cloth to be essential nearby products :) Edited January 11, 2017 by jimiC
trigen Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 I think a bucket should be included in the essentials haha. It dont take much to get sick :D Reminds me of my first 6 weeks at sea. And it can get worse just suddenly when you thing you're fine too 1080 ti, i7700k 5ghz, 16gb 3600 cl14 ddr4 oc
