So the sun is quite strong in Vr. Anything that can be done about that? sadly I don't have a working hand to cover my eyes with! Some mod for reducing it or shades would be perfect

As bad as it may seem, it's nowhere near as harsh as the real thing, and never will be. Well, not unless they develop a fusion display capable of outputting close to 100,000 lux. The Vive is capable of about 300 lux.

I've read about people disabling Direct Mode so they could go into the Nvidia CP settings and manually adjust the contrast/brightness of the HTC display. I don't think that would be a viable trade-off for DCS though.

Maybe you could just swing by your optometrist and pick up one of those plastic shades things they give you after dilating your eyes and stick those in the Vive. ;)

Sure the sun is brighter in RL so what? You put shades or something in front. Fly into the sun in VR and you can either look to the side only or be screwed, its plenty bright enough and fills the screen quite well even when looking out to the side. So it could use a option like they have in the Gazelle
