With the coming of the Tomcat and Hornet, many of us will need to learn a lot more about carrier ops as many of the basic launch and recovery processes are quite intricate once you get a few aircraft in the air.

 

These references are handy starting points for understanding basic operations, including emergency procedures:

A lot of the stuff in these manuals won't be relevant, but it's a thorough starting point.
