Weegie Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I like the look if this, its quite expensive for what it is. I'd be really interested to know if anybody here is using it and what there are thoughts on comfort and if it makes a noticeable difference to using the stick
ggerman Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I use the 13 degree forward/15 degree offset version in heavy black plastic and it works great. Very strong and stiff. It will take a little getting used to if you are used to the upright, straight metal tailpiece that comes standard with the Warthog. The forward pitch will feel a little strange at first, but you'll get used to it quickly. I bought it to replace the original cheap metal version, which snapped in two. This one, I feel, will be much stronger! In fact, I just bought 4 more of these tailpieces yesterday for my spare Warthog sticks as well as an extra Warthog Throttle Detent.
Thadiun Okona Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 These are great but there needs to be a warning label on any 'polished' products from Shapeways... it makes the outer dimensions smaller. In my case none of the 3 tailpieces I have bought are usable because after their polishing process the od of the stem was reduced from 16mm down to 15.8mm. That 0.2mm is enough to make the stick wobble a few degrees in both axes no matter how tight you make the screws. That shaft needs to be exactly 16mm or there is enough play to be a problem.
Weegie Posted February 28, 2017 Author Posted February 28, 2017 Many Thanks for the feedback the 13 degree forward/15 degree offset sounds really cool I was thinking of matt black steel, but if the plastic works, then I'd save a bunch of cash by taking that route Mmmmm now need to give it some thought Cheers Appreciated you guys took the time
ggerman Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I didn't even bother with the polished version. There's no need for it in my opinion. You can't really see the piece when it's connected to the base so its a waste of effort and, as you said, could reduce the outer diameter. I reduced any chance of play in my stick by adding an extra washer to the inside attachment screw and over-tightening it. As a result, it is firmly in place and there isn't the slightest hint of wobble.
