uhntissbaby111 Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Just looking for a little help with level bombing using the low drag bombs. From what I gather from the manual: as I'm approaching the target, master mode to ANF, I should see the reticle over my target waypoint, and then when I go weapon unsafe, I should see the reticle disappear and see a vertical tick along with the range on the bottom. And there is my problem, im not getting the radar ranging tick or range indication until after I overfly the target. Here is my setup. I set my waypoint to M3, the target, when I'm 20km or so out I switch mode to ANF. The reticle appears over the target, so far so good. I get a bit closer, drop down to 300 meters or so, and go unsafe. And all that happens is the reticle disappears. No radar ranging. I overfly the target, and then I get the tick and range info. So I have to turn around and that's when I get the release indications. Is it normal that I have to fly over the target first? Or am I missing something? I got my QFE set, weapon selected to Bomb Plan, tried all kinds of altitudes, cycling safe and unsafe, and no luck
Mad_Jack Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 (edited) You are too high, manual states release altitude is at 200m (page295). Edit: Going of the flowchart in the manual and the level release info, I'm not sure now. It does state to release when indicated or when the sight disappears below the hud. (p297) Maybe try you initial approach at a lower (100m - 200m) altitude. Edited March 2, 2017 by Mad_Jack [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] DCS Chopper Skins
JanTelefon Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 The drop altitude can be set (in the ME somewhere) to low, medium and high (200, 400 and 600 meters I think). I remember reading something on the forums that the default setting is medium (400 meters). For the drop procedure you should go into ANF and when you are diving by more than 5 (or is it 3?) degrees the radar ranging tick should appear on the top. When pointing the pipper at the target you then unsafe weapons to tell the computer your designated target. If you then fly level at about 400 meters the pipper should stay roughly on target and enable a quite precise "CCRP" release with the standard symbology. Putting the HUD glass in low level mode helps quite a bit. I hope that makes things clearer. If not, shout and I'll try to explain again. :)
