AbortedMan Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 I find the strength in the Viggen to be flying low to get past enemy air defenses, drop ordnance, and be out before any missile can make its way to you which usually works...during daytime. During night time this is extremely difficult, if not impossible. Other than turning gamma up on the monitor, what tools are people utilizing to stay ~50m alt and not hitting the ground during pitch black dark scenarios?...or is this not a plausible expectation for the Viggen during night time?
lemoen Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 There is the terrain avoidance radar mode. Meant to be used in low visibility situations to not hit stuff.
il_corleone Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Plan more your route. Use a Avg. height on every waypoint and a minimun height. This will be higher than on daytime, of course. You can use what we use in the squadorn, the time "rule". Using ETA, we use height with time so we know when to climb and how much. Also for dive. If you don´t want to use it, you can use a notepad to know at what distance what is the lowest altitude.
inSky_1911CFZS Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Use obstacle detection mode of the radar along with the ground collision warning.
AlexKall Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Would of been nice with NVG, they were used in the Viggen but that wont be implemented as of what I read. :(
