Ghostrider142 Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 (edited) I looked for a similar thread before starting this one and couldn't find one, hope this is the right location for this topic. Question #1: How do you tell an aircraft to land on a carrier? I have a flight of 2 F/A-18C's and they take off from the CVN-77 and I have them fly a patrol pattern around the line of travel of the carrier group for an hour and then I set a waypoint for them next to a waypoint for the carrier and I change that F-18 waypoint to 'landing' and it sends that waypoint to the nearest land airport instead of snapping to the carrier. How to change this? If there is no way, then how do I use the RTB task command to get it to return to the carrier deck within a general time frame without doing fuel/knots/time algebra? Question #2: I have several missions where I've put F-18's and F-14s on carrier decks (both the Vinson and the Bush) while the carriers are moving and have taken off from them with zero issues, however in the above scenario, when I load into an F-14 (same mod across all my missions) it begins sliding off the deck and into the sea, whether it is set to start from 'parking hot, 'launch from ramp' or launch from runway'. What is causing that? I've hunted for these answers before coming here, any help appreciated. Note: this is in the up to date 1.5 DCS world Edited May 2, 2017 by Ghostrider142 i7-4770K @3.50GHz; EVGA 1070 8GB Superclocked; 16GB Ram; MSI Z97 Gaming; two Samsung 500GB SSD's in RAID; TrackIR; 32" 2560x1440 Samsung
Grimes Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 1. It should just snap to the carrier. My best guess is mod that added the CVN-77 may have changed a file or isn't configured correctly. Strange if it works for take-off but not landing. 2. Thats a flight model and ship motion synchronization issue. Basically aircraft aren't "glued" to the ship and you end up with two hitboxes that are moving around reacting. I know its present with some other aircraft like helicopters, but its been a while since I've flown the Su-33 to know how it will react to SFM aircraft. Again since they are modder aircraft, it could have something to do with that. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Ghostrider142 Posted May 2, 2017 Author Posted May 2, 2017 Ok, I'll try to land it on the other carrier to see if it works. Oddly my wingman landed back on the carrier sometime after I'd flown too close to the frigates, I'll check to see what RTB on bingo fuel does to the F-18's. I have just discovered that the cause of the sliding off the deck in my mission is the F-14 AFM, it is the only one that does it, the regular F-14 functions fine. The AFM's tail hook won't lower either, so I will just have to avoid using it. Is this the case with all the AFM's? i7-4770K @3.50GHz; EVGA 1070 8GB Superclocked; 16GB Ram; MSI Z97 Gaming; two Samsung 500GB SSD's in RAID; TrackIR; 32" 2560x1440 Samsung
