Massive FPS drop when accelerating time esp with heli's

I need to time compress to test missions, but when there are helicopters, my frames drop as soon as I hit x3. Then the whole thing just slows down and becomes very unresponsive. I go back to x2 and frames become acceptable again. Is this a recent thing or is it a know issue?
