Dear ED devs,

In France we don't make pussy flights ! Last week we organized the first of a 3 missions serie with some 45 players on the same battlefield.

The setup was the following :

Server : OVH MC-32 upgraded https://www.ovh.com/fr/serveurs_dedies/game/171mc1.xml

17 Kamov-50

14 Sa-342 with 1 multipit

9 Uh-1 and 3 Mi-8

950 ground units on a 40*40 km square. Various ground to ground engagements... It was a complex mission.

We managed to identify various critical issues, which, even if they may come from our server, will be common to many users of OVH servers which is the biggest EU offer

- S-8TSM (orange smoke) rockts shot from a client kamov-50 will cause the server to freeze for the whole duration of the smoke (around 5 min). Standard mission editor smoke trigger won't cause the same issue.

- On each Caucasus airfield, there are white&red trucks near the runway. Shooting at them will cause the server to freeze definitely (possible issue in the destroyed 3d model loading).

Except those issues, we were able to conduct the flight to its end. FPS weren't really good, and some ground units were laggy when there were mike everywhere. But it was kinda good.

So thank you for your good job, it wouldn't have been possible few years ago, please take into account this report as long as it's quite rare to plan such mission with so many clients and AI units on the same area ;) We are, of course, entirely available to organize testing on your request.

dimitriov, I would be interested to know the following:

1. What is your servers upload and download capabilities/speed as measured on speedtest.net?

2. What is your servers bandwidth allocation in it's autoexec.cfg file?

3. What do your clients have for bandwidth allocation in their autoexec.cfg?

For the 3rd answer as long as it was an "opened" flight to everyone I couldn't answer, but I guess that it's the standard default one for most people (including me I guess).

For the 2 first I will check them tomorrow and give you an answer ;)

Any suggestion on it btw ?

We organize a new mass flight on July the 26th. We may have new datas to provide to this thread.

I could make suggestions for your server bandwidth allocation; what settings to put in your server's autoexec.cfg... but I would have to know what the speedtest.net download and upload speeds are in Mbps. Other users may also pop in here to make their recommendations as well after they see your speeds. My forum time is limited lately while I get ready for a long distance move, but I'll try to make a suggestion if I can.
