Twitching Gun Sight Pipper

hi all - so i've noticed this strange behavior every once in a while. i'll be lined up behind my bogey when my radar picks him up.

 

now normally when this happens, as i get closer, the pipper get bigger to match the wingspan and the distance wheel decreases.

 

however sometimes, as soon as the radar picks him up, the gun sight starts to flash big and small over and over again, totally freaking out. even if i decrease the radar range, or cage and uncage, as soon as the radar picks it up again it freaks out. even if the radar range is on almost minimum. when this happens i can never get it to work again and have to fight with it caged.

 

am i missing something here? this happen to other people?
