Precog Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 Hello pilots, Man, I love this plane! However, the one thing that has bugged me (no pun intended) for awhile is the adverse yaw you get when flying in and out of turns. This is especially noticeable when rolling in for a gun run and the nose is swinging all over the place. Surely this isn't how the real plane behaves??? Any real HOG pilots here? Now, the manual states on pg 148 that the SAS provides automatic turn co-ordinatition - Frankly, Im not seeing this. Even when I turn off yaw SAS I find it very hard to maintain co-ordinated using rudder rolling in and out of turns. I fly light sport aircraft, tailwheel and aerobatics in real life so I feel like I have pretty good stick and rudder skills. There has been a couple of other threads in the past that talk about this issue - one thread acknowledging it as a bug back back in 2013! https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=109576 Is this still classified as a bug? Im surprised there has been little talk about this issue. Check out my 'real world' video series [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Scaley Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 Interesting. I've flown some light sport aircraft with fairly strong adverse yaw and never found the A-10 to be too bad in DCS, but the SAS definitely doesn't do all the work for you. I hadn't (like that previous thread) ever compared SAS ON and SAS OFF. 476th vFighter Group Main Page -- YouTube -- Discord Scaley AV YouTube - More videos from the 476th
Precog Posted August 7, 2017 Author Posted August 7, 2017 Its more of a problem doing aggressive rolls like a pop-up gun attack...maybe its more noticeable in VR. If I try to help the SAS with a bit of rudder it doesn't work out very well and is not intuitive. Do some turns without any rudder inputs and watch what the 'ball' and/or the nose does during the whole maneuver - rolling in and out and different rates and G's. Scaley Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 The yaw SAS only has +/- 7deg of rudder authority available for turn coordination, so if you are at high lateral stick deflections you can easily require more than that given the wing length and the roll-rates. 476th vFighter Group Main Page -- YouTube -- Discord Scaley AV YouTube - More videos from the 476th
