I'm not even sure if I used the emulate/simulate correctly there, but that's why I put this into this forum, it's a random thought I had for a moment. But I was thinking, what if it could be simply that when you choose "engine failure" you would simply be hit bit an invisible missile but still a real one. Or when you want a bird strike failure, invisible but still very much real birds would spawn just in front of that engine, with the bird sound and visual effects turned off, the engine would appear it got blown for no reason. Or a hydraulic failure, some invisible gun would spawn inside the plane and shoot the hydraulics with invisible bullets ... hopefully not damaging anything else, or maybe setting everything else to "invurnable" except the hydraulics for that moment.
