ATC and flight groups on same frequency

Hi

 

I'm not a mission builder myself, and my question has its origin from a specific Huey mission, "Stray Eagle", but I figured it belongs here. If not, mods are welcome to move it to a better place.

 

So, in "Stray Eagle" the FARP and my escort, Colt-1, is on the same frequency of 116MHz AM, while my wingman and I have 251MHz.

 

To talk to my wingman I dial in "2" on my Signal Distribution Panel to select the UHF radio, and to talk to ATC I dial in "3" for the VHF.

But if I want to talk to Colt-1?

Is it at all possible to interact with them?

Is the selection of same frequency only to make it easier for the player, i.e. no need to charge frequency from ATC to Colt-1 in order to get their status reports?
