Republic Campaign -- Precipitation Mission

After taking repeated beatings with this mission, it's time to ask for a little direction.

 

 

My current attack plan is to take out ground fire threats from first one and then the other side of the lake with guns. These are BMPs, I believe. Then I planned to work on the AAA mixed in with the primary targets. If I have to RTB and rearm, so be it. However, my gun is utterly ineffective. I am locked on target, well within range, the air frame is steady, yet the bullets miss. I get closer. Bullets still miss, missiles start coming at me. I evade of course, but how can one possibly move forward in the mission with ineffective weapons? Would rockets be the weapon of choice at this stage of the mission? I admit to not being very good with rockets yet, which is why I was hoping the gun would help take out threats before I move in on the MLRS's with rockets.

 

Any mission attack plan assistance will be welcomed. Any ideas on why the gun is so ineffective would be interesting as well, e.g. wind, rain, range? Pilot? :(
