The European theater is not a problem for the apache,…
That is not what we saw in 1999 military involvement over former Yugoslavia. There is an hour long show on Discovery channel called “Alpha company” or something like that. They had press people embedded in the squadron of Apaches that was (meant to be) deployed over Yugoslavia. The cameras were actually roiling when the second Apache crashed and killed both crew members (may god bless their souls).

why they crashed in the balkans is a mystery to me…
There was never any official statements about the cause of the crashes. I will speculate and say that nowadays modern IC homing man-pads are such a high threat that attack helicopter does not stand a chance. Hack, A-10’s deck was at 15 000 feet.

… sounds more like that propaganda stuff.
It is not the sounds, it is how your brain perceive them.

Saw this site the other day of some guy from that area where it stated that a b-2 got shot down and several german tornados LMAO!!
You are talking about “some guy”. I will tell you that William Cohen, defense secretary at that time was saying that there was “100 000 killed or missing Kosovo Albanians”. It turned out that there was less then three thousands TOTAL, including Serbs, Gipsies, Kosovo Albanians and others. That number included all those killed by NATO bombs too. Not to mention shameless lies that came out from General Clark.

So propaganda was working on both sides. Therefore, it is not about the sounds, but it is about the strength of your intellect to distinguish between the facts and ficition.

When you want to preserve your aircraft, that's exactly what you do. A-10's/could/ operate with that deck specifically ebcause they were not threatened by med/hi-alt SAMs. Not because they were 'afraid of MANPADS'. If you can stay out of the threat's range AND still do your job, that is -exactly- what you do. It has nothing to do with the aircraft in question 'having no chance'. If you had no MANPADS threat you'd stay above flank range. Above Shilka range. Above AK-47 range ... and so on down the line.

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
