It's time for another new mission from me. I am slowly runing out of good names. Since I am trying hard to make realistic "standard" missions that could be the daily business of a Su-25 driver, I can hardly name them 'Operation Fancy Soda' :) On the other hand 'Mission 'No543e' doesn't sound realy exciting, so please excuse my titles :)

 

In this mission you are tasked to strike a USMC command post west of Feodosija. The mission features quite heavy AAA, from Cal.50 over 20mm till 25mm. This is probably the best AAA expierience you can get out of FC.

Another cool thing wich I am quite proud of is variable SAM defense in the target area. The mission is set up in a way that Stingers will be launched from different places everytime you play the mission. It is even possible that there might be no Stingers fired at all, but if you are very unlucky you will face lots of them. Everytime you play the mission it will be different.

Also the AreaGoal is used again in that mission. The first time I test played it I managed to get a good salvo in the target position before getting out of there, but I only damaged a LVPT-7 without kills. Usualy this means mission failure. Not so in my mission, where my rocket attack triggered a mission success.

Some tricks and hints:

-In the debrief you will see many helos getting shot down within the first 4 minutes of the mission. Don't worry, that is required for the mission to work.

-Right after entering the cockpit you will get a audible warning wich you can mute with "Shift+N" ( or Ctrl+N ? ). Don't forget to press Shift+N again to re-enable Nagin' Nadia, otherwise you wont get any further audible warnings when damaged.

-In order to maximise surviveabililty over the battlefield, stay fast ( 700-850 kph ), stay low, don't fly straight and use continuous ( automatic ) flare dispense.

-Have a good look at the briefing map. Notice enemy positions, and make a battleplan. Determine your safest ingress and egress routes, but be aware that not every enemy unit is displayed in the briefing. Try to keep your time over hostile ground to a minimum.

Fun and enjoyable as always. A few comments;

 

I think you give too many enemy positions. Perhaps just the friendly front line and an indication on where the AAA threats are in the briefing.

If you want variability without shooting down over twenty helicopters may I suggest the Lockon Mission Randomizer (LMR). Most people who have your objects pack installed could be assumed to be savy enought to use it as well. I couldn't recommend it enough.

As PFMM stated the king of Random Stinger, Vulcans, Strellas is LMR.

 

Rugbutt did a great "LMR Ground Attack Pack" a while ago.

 

I really enjoy the new SOP1, the targets are just right for the su25. :worthy:

 

You have created some new Run-In and Scoot-Out missions that are what I

think the su25 was designed/created for. :thumbup:

The 16 helicopters getting killed at the start is unfortunatley mandatory. In FC there are not much AAA or AA-MGs. Altough the LAV-25 will engage air targets with 25mm ( wich I have used alot in that mission to create a constant danger over the battlefield ) and the LVPT-7 will engage with 12,7mm, both will do only at extreme short range. A nice workaround for this is the Avenger, wich also has a 12,7mm, but will engage at maximum weapon range ( because this unit has anti-air AI ). So at the start of the mission I have to get rid of all ( or most ) of the Stingers of the Avengers deployed, otherwise you would get engaged by 48 Stingers in this mission...

But that way you will only meet 2-3 Stingers ( or none ), and the Avengers 12,7mm will make up for the bulk of anti-air fire. The randomisation of SAM is just a nice side effect of this.

 

Did you have any fps problems with this amount of units ?

I had some stuttering in the beginning of the mission.

 

But after the helo's are all shot down it was OK.

 

This mission was fun to watch in TacView after it

 

was over and see the stingers that did get launched at me while I ran in.

Realy ? I didn't expierience much interference with the A-10. At one point I shot one down with R-60 when he was defensive against the Buk, but normaly I don't see them at all.

Perhaps you are arriving in the target area too early, try cruising at 500-600 kph. The A-10s should be death or on their way home by then.
