CrazyAggie05 Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Hey guys, quick question (hopefully). I asked a similar quesiton on another board, but I don't think I got all the info I was looking for. I want to know how increase the viewing range of ground vehicles in the game. I originally was interested in only increasing viewing range in the Su-25 and A-10 targeting systems, and I was told to modify the MFD values in graphics.cfg. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that only increases the detail of the terrain in the MFD right? I want to be able to see vehicles better in the MFD as well, and heck if I can increase the distance you can see them looking out the window as well that would be great too. I hate how the vehicles pop into view way too late and are a PITA to see even when they do. I find it extremely odd that you can see buring vehicles and buldings from way the hell out there, even before some of the roads and stuff! The other peoblem I have is buildings poppin up into view. I don't mind, until it is something I am trying to target! :joystick: Any ideas? Oh btw, I have a pretty powerhouse system (i think): AMD X2 4400, 2 gig ram, Ati X1800XT (512 mb version), Raptor 10000 RPM SATA HD.... I love my job :pilotfly:
VapoR Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Turn off AA, that helps for me. Also, at one point I had a problem with my video card where I couldn't see vehicles very far. Swapped the card out with my wife's identical card and it fixed the problem!! You should be able to spot vehicles at about 18km or so visual.
CrazyAggie05 Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 18 KM! Wow, thats awesome..... I only have one vid card lol, and dont plan on buying one until Ati's DX10 card comes out......... why would turning AA off help? Isn't everyone going to be all blurry and shit? I love my job :pilotfly:
CrazyAggie05 Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 could installing CAW have f'ed things up? I dunno waht all the FPS mod that is included with it does...... I love my job :pilotfly:
VapoR Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 why would turning AA off help? Isn't everyone going to be all blurry and shit? For some reason it makes the vehicles blink and thus they catch your eye. Turning AF off would make textures viewed at an angle blurry, turning off AA will cause the edges of objects to have "jaggies". If I turn off AA, I usually compensate by increasing the resolution which can also help reduce jaggies.
Kuky Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 change MFD LOD's values in graphics.cfg they don't only chage ground texture distance but also then vehicles LOD are visible. I use 20000, 40000 for day 10000, 20000 for night 20000, 30000 for MFD PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
CrazyAggie05 Posted February 9, 2007 Author Posted February 9, 2007 have ya'll ever tried changing the "objects" value under the viewing distance section (i.e. under "medium" settings chagne the objects value to something higher like 10000,80000) I love my job :pilotfly:
Kuky Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 This is what I have set at the moment (I change some values from time to time): near_clip = 0.1; middle_clip = 2; far_clip = 80000; structures = {50, 5000}; trees = {20000, 20000}; dynamic = {300, 10000}; objects = {3000, 40000}; mirage = {3000, 10000}; surface = {20000, 50000}; lights = {200, 30000}; lod = 2; PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
