Hi all,

I recently re-installed windows xp, slapped my LOMAC disk in the drive and redownloaded and activated my copy of FC. Thing is, it won't start. At all. When trying to run 1.12, the whole application crashes out before the 'music' starts and SF never seems to get started. Out of curiousity, I then uninstalled the whole lot, and reinstalled up to 1.02 - and that won't run either. All I get is one process '~e5d141.tmp' that rapidly chews up 1Gb of ram, most of my processor time and does nothing. I left my machine to think it over for a while and twenty minutes later it was still in the same state.

Hardware hasn't changed, but here's my rig:

Athlon64 3200+

Nvidia 7600GS

1.5Gb Ram

Creative Audigy 2 Platinum EX

I suspected it could be the notorious codec issue, so I've already stripped out all excess codecs and the problem persists. Any ideas anybody?

Lt. Commander Block: Every aerial photo and recon report indicate a defensive arsenal in the D, and perhaps negative C, categories. There's also some anti-aircraft squadrons.

Admiral Benson: I don't have a clue what you're talkin' about, Phil. Not a clue. I have a shell the size of a fist in my head. Pork Chop Hill. The only way I can make this toupee to stay on is by magnetizing the entire upper left quadrant of my skull, so you just go ahead and do what you do.

I know that lock on will not start without graphics acceleration.

Check in display properties click settings, advanced, troubleshoot and check to see that, graphics acceleration slider is set to full.

I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully.

That's not it - checked the setting, but as I suspected it was ok. Tried uninstalling the drivers and rolling back, same result with the three versions I tried.

Right - after some discussion with the folks at Star-force I managed to source the problem: My machine was infected with a varient of the Nilage virus. Because of the way the virus hides itself it was interfering with both my securom and starforce drivers rendering all such protected applications unrunnable.

I hope that this info is helpful to anybody with a similar problem.
