Jesper Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Hello Since I fly myself I find that the sensation of speed is not accurate, I fly helicopters in dcs with rift, I fly paramotor in real life. Anyway, when I just fly around with the mouse and increase and decrease the speed with the mousewheel I notice that there is no problem at all to go really fast, sure I am not inside a cockpit which I guess will be more heavy on cpu and gpu when I do but... It would be so nice if I could increase the flightspeed of the helicopter. Time compression or simulation speed it's not the same thing because I am happy with the handling and my controls. Is there any way I can have higher topspeed, change some config file? Jesper
Flagrum Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 (edited) As you said, the _sensation_ of speed is different from RL. But that has nothing to do with top speed. It has rather to do with the lack of peripheral vision and maybe other clues that our brain gets from other sensors that a just not stimulated by sitting in front of a monitor. If you want the physics in the simulation to stay accurate, then there is nothing that you can really do to remedy that atm. The top speed depends on many different factors, starting with the engine power and probably not ending at environmental parameters. Fiddeling around with these parameters of the flight model does only one thing: it screws it totally up. Edited March 11, 2018 by Flagrum
Jesper Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 Mm I do not agree. I don’t use 2d screen Since I am using the rift. Wien I am passing the tree tops in the UH-1h it is the same speed like when I am passing them when I fly paramotor, which is around 50km/h Since I am no math genius I can not calculate the speed over the ground but I wouldn’t be surprised IF it wasn’t accurate. Doing 100knts over the ground should be faster than this. Jesper
Jesper Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 I tried other maps caucasus and nevada and it looks better. Tried normandy again and it feels better but I stil feel it has little slower speed than the other two. But maybe it is just a coincidence depends where you fly.
Bogey Jammer Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Check the altitude. Maybe you fly at 100m high in paramotor, but 300m in DCS… I wonder what do you technically suggest to enhance the speed sensation, because if you raise the top speed of the aircraft, that would break everything in the sim. I'll buy : МиГ-23МЛД & МЛА МиГ-27К МиГ-25 Mirage III F-4E any IJ plane 1950' Korea Dynamic campaign module
dedde01 Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Remember that in DCS you don't have peripheral vision, where you can see things moving "faster" (because you can't focus on them if they are more than ~60° out from where you are watching and they appear also blurred a bit). That means A LOT for our brain to have speed sensation. SILVER 11 | Dedde DCS MODULES: A-10C; F-15C ; M2000C; AV-8B N/A; F/A-18C; SA342; CA.
