At night, safely landing on any field in Normandy is an excellent challenge. I love those expeditionary aluminum plates covering runways. But man'o'man at night, dusk and dawn, seeing the runway threshold, and runway alignment is not easy. Even with A-10C NVG. With F-5E, you have to set approach waypoints to guide yourself, and you have to hit the waypoints at speed and altitude. What is needed are amber obstruction lights, dimmed of course. Those would not be part of map but a Structure object. Smoke effect object are not visible at night. User can place those lights at runway thresholds, and a pair midpoint of runway.

I am of the opinion that treelines are too close to runway thresholds, so a steeper glideslope is required. Of course those fields were built to accommodate WWII aircraft.

Even with Gamma set to 2.4, it is nearly impossible to make out runway at night in Normandy. I love it!

This is the obstruction light.

Or some other object. A burning barrel, a tire covered in Cyalume chemiluminescent paint, a torch.
