VMFA-Blaze Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Norton has been a no-no for long time now .... (and mcafee has been one for even longer, but at least it hasn't been messing (with) the inner works of windows) I had some virus's slip through with both Norton and McAfee... I actually was informed about Stop sign when I started working for Compusa.. So after real problems started to arise with my ISP I did a scan with stop sign .. and found there were 2 virus present that weren't actually detected before.. So I deleted Mcafee.. My experiences with Norton came when I built my last system with a Asus M/B.. Norton was included in the M/B install disk... So the same thing happened here a virus got into my new system, so I dumped Norton and installed Stop sign ..... So far my systems are running great with no virus's present... ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR
Squid Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 NOD and kaspersky seem to be top of the line currently. (and Trend micro used to have a good reputation some time ago) AVG has been a decent solution for freeware cases. But AOL has a freeware version of Kaspersky antivirus which might be of the best freeware choices these days. when i replaced Norton with AVG and Kerio Firewall my system got faster, when i replaced AVG & Kerio with Kaspersky it got even faster :) . i7 880 | HD 7870 | 8 Gb DDR3 1600 | ECS P55H-A | OCZ Vertex 2 180 | Intel 330 180 | WD 500 AAKS | 2x WD 2T Green | Enermax Liberty 620 | CH Combatstick & Throttle | TrackIR 3 | HP ZR24W | Windows 7 x64
warthogmadman987 Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 You know the only thing really worthwhile from Norton happens to be Ghost, otherwise i would stay away from everything else.

Even that can be replaced by Acronis True Image ;) Try it. More flexible, more functions and more modern than Ghost :) . i7 880 | HD 7870 | 8 Gb DDR3 1600 | ECS P55H-A | OCZ Vertex 2 180 | Intel 330 180 | WD 500 AAKS | 2x WD 2T Green | Enermax Liberty 620 | CH Combatstick & Throttle | TrackIR 3 | HP ZR24W | Windows 7 x64
