I have a set of CH rudder pedals which seem to be working properly within the sim, rudders deflect as they should on the Hornet (visually) but in flight they seem to have no command(or very little) at any speed with or without gear, flaps. Taxing is fine, nws hi works as it should. could this be normal behavior of the Hornet. Has anyone else noticed this?

One thing to remember is that you have no direct control over any control surface. You have traditional flight controls to tell the flight computer what you want the aircraft to do and then it moves whatever surfaces it determines will accomplish your goal.

Understood Revelation, but at 400 kts and 100% deflection of the rudder surfaces with no noticeable change in heading/attitude i tend to think something is wrong....

That's different from what you posted above. Try activating the control windows to see what inputs DCS is seeing while you are operating your rudder.

I noticed this similar bug when the early access model became available. I didn't think that much of the lack of rudder deflection in flight as I have no maintenance knowledge of the F-18 like I do for other Boeing (McDonnell Douglas) aircraft. That is until I read "Raven One" by Kevin Miller, specifically his fictional account of the air battle with the mysterious Iranian MIG. He mentions using the rudders a lot in the battle especially at low speeds and high AOA, which falls in line with what I know about other aircraft. So when I had the time I tested the F-18 during the "Instant Action Free Flight" mission, and with the flaps in the auto position and landing gear up, there is minimum rudder deflection at any air speed or AOA. This is evidenced by an external visual view and the FPAS page on the DDI. Please see the attached page from the flight manual.

Update: After further testing I have noted that there is some rudder deflection at low air speeds and high AOA.

Rudder certainly has an effect at lower speeds and higher AoA situations. What do you need full rudder deflection for at 400 knots?
