CSEL & HSEL direct input to UFC question

If the CSEL or HSEL toggle is held to the right or left you see on the HSI the CSEL or HSEL rotate around the HSI compass rose. If you hold it for a few seconds it causes the UFC to light up showing CSEL or HSEL and you are then able to use the key pad to input the heading directly.

Is there a way to input the CSEL or HSEL directly into the UFC without the need to hold the CSEL or HSEL toggle first?

Nope. Believe me I wish it were otherwise. I'd even be happy with the Heading bug matching up to current heading and not yanking the airplane in some direction.

Seems poorly designed, I don't think I'd ever end up using the direct input for this reason.
